Basic Sciences - The U.S. Air Drive is creating new power capabilities appropriate to an emerging array of threats. It's clear that advances in information science and expertise (IS&T) are important for most of those new capabilities. As a consequence, the Air Pressure is discovering it essential to refocus its IS&T primary research program to offer stronger help for reaching these goals. To help this effort, the AFOSR asked the NRC for a research to create a imaginative and prescient and plan for the IS&T-related programs within the Office's Mathematics and Area Science Directorate. This report supplies an assessment of primary research wants for Air Force systems and communications, software, data management and integration, and human interactions with IS&T systems. The report also gives a set of priorities for basic IS&T research, and an analysis of funding mechanisms its support.
